PARA UMA CULTURA FASCINANTE

Ernesto Sampaio
REF.28348
Year 1959
1stEdition

Lisbon; Author Edition - Tipografia A União, Lda.; In-8 of (28) pages; paperback

Unusual first edition of the author's second work. Maria de Fátima Marinho refers to it in the following terms, in her O Surrealismo em Portugal (National Press – Mint, Lisbon, 1987): «(...) theoretical text that summarizes the main data of surrealism – Towards a Fascinating Culture. In this book, Ernesto Sampaio once again emphasizes the importance of the primordial elements of Nature and their alchemical transformation. The conception of love is similar to that expressed by Breton in L'Amour Fou. The definition of theater points directly to the teachings of Artaud (...). Finally, Ernesto Sampaio ends with the ideal definition of a poet, who must have a connection with the initiates so that he can “replace his private unconscious with the collective unconscious”. Rare first edition of this important contribution to the knowledge of the Council of Setúbal, rich in information on history, architecture, art, legislation, civil and ecclesiastical administration, military issues, communications, flora and fauna. Includes chronology and biographies of illustrious people born in the Municipality. Illustrated with data sheet in extratexto «Nominal relation of public and private teachers who taught in the council of Setubal in the year 1876 to 1877, with designation of the number of students of both sexes, and maximum and minimum age» . Alberto Pimentel was a notable author of a great number of works, being the founder of the Camillian studies. This work is the result of an order from the Setúbal Chamber that commissioned him to write a history of Munícipio. The author benefited from documents and writings of Manuel Maria Portela (1833-1906), an expert on the history of the city, who were given to him by the Chamber.
